When I don't feel good enough....

Being a mother is a very hard job and sometimes I feel like I'm not doing it right.
Well---most of the time I feel like I'm not doing it right. I feel like a failure when my children don't behave. I feel like I did not teach them good manners and I blame myself for more things than I probably should. maybe it's just me being really hard on myself and I want everything to be perfect but that is impossible so I need

Mt Carmel Baptist Campmeeting

For the last 3 years we have attended the Mt. Carmel Baptist Campmeeting in Hendersonville, NC the 3rd week in September. Our boys enjoy playing with friends every day outside and we all enjoy the morning and evening church services. There is always lots of great singing and preaching and praising the LORD!

The weather was great this year. No rain and a little cooler at night. We are thankful for all God did for us at this Campmeeting!

Accepting God's Plan for Our Lives

Sometimes we don't understand what is happening in our lives. I think God allows things in order to see how much faith we have or maybe to see if we are going to follow Him.

When we were first told about the church in South Dakota in Sept. 2014 we never imagined we would move out there. Over several months so many people had approached us about the need out there. So Chris flew out in May on a survey trip and preached for them. After coming home

Road Trip to South Dakota

Last week we made a road trip out to South Dakota and it was Beautiful! Our boys had never been out west and neither had I.
We put our two suitcases on top of the van to make more room in the trunk and covered them in plastic. That was not a good idea. The plastic ended up getting shredded from all the

Adventures in Boston

Jaron and I got home yesterday from his clinic visit in Boston. We flew up Friday and went to straight to the hospital. His appointment was at 1:00pm.

We met with the dental team first to look at the position of his teeth and they reviewed his x-rays sent to them by our local dentist. We discussed a palate expander for Jaron and then Dr. Padwa came in to talk more about his bone graft surgery. She said

No place like home

There really is no place like home.
No awkwardness
No uncomfortable feelings
No one is being shunned
No critical looks
No judgemental whispering
No favoritism
Just because I don't react

Baseball Season

So Jacob and Jaron played baseball this spring and they had so much fun! Even though it got rained out a couple times they made up for it with double headers. In the beginning of the season it was cold and as the weeks went by it got HOT!

The teams were split up into age groups ages 9-12 on one team. So they got to be together on the Oriels.

Enjoying My Children

So after Jacob and I dug up our flowers in the flowerbed to start our garden, we found TONS of worms! Which of course meant we HAD to go fishing. Daddy caught one fish and the boys enjoyed trying.
We went to party city to shop for supplies for the Mothers & Sons ladies meeting and we had some fun playing with hats & props.
We have been stuck the house the last couple weeks with a lot of rain.
Found this wig in Books A Million! LOL

Then we had the Mother/Son ladies meeting at church and the boys enjoyed the mustaches and hats.

Happy 7th Birthday Jonah!!!

Our boys are growing up way too fast! I cannot believe our 3rd son Jonah turned 7 this past weekend!
He loves to wear suits to church and "look like preacher".
He got a pretty big gift for his birthday, After daddy put it together I covered it with a blanket for him to find when he woke up that morning.
He is VERY smart and loves numbers like his mommy. He loves school and has a very compassionate heart. He can always tell when I have a headache and says he feels bad for me and sorry that I don't feel good. I love this little boy with all of me.

Silly rabbit Easter is for Jesus!

Well if you've been reading my blog long enough you know we do not celebrate Easter like most of the world. Because we are Christians we choose to focus on Jesus and what He did for us at Calvary. Our celebrations include Resurrection Eggs. I think they cost $12-$15 in the stores but I bought the eggs for $1 and had the rest here at home or printed it on the computer.
We read each numbered egg that coordinated with the plastic egg and what was inside.
They told the story of Jesus at the Last Supper and how he was betrayed, nailed to the cross with a crown of thorns, died and rose again on the 3rd day.

The kids love them!

The I asked the boys to collect 5 rocks each in their "Un-Easter" baskets. They thought is was a little weird but they did it. We brought them in the house and wrote our sins on the rocks and read Ezekiel 36:26 and we talked about how our sins are like rocks in our hearts. The we reminded them when Jesus dies on the cross He shed His blood to cover our sins. So we covered the baskets with a red cloth and explained how Jesus can't see ours sins when they are covered by His blood.
We also made Resurrection Rolls
You need:
One can of crescent roll dough
8 large marshmallows (or one for each roll you’ll be making)
Melted butter
Cinnamon sugar
Read John 19 while the oven is preheating to 350.
Unroll the crescent rolls and place on a rimmed baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Explain that this is like the cloth they wrapped Jesus in.
Give your child a marshmallow and explain that it represents Jesus,
Roll the marshmallows in the melted butter.
This symbolizes the embalming oils.
Roll the marshmallows in the cinnamon sugar.
This is like the spices used to prepare his body for burial.
Wrap the marshmallow in the crescent roll cloth, pinching the dough together securely. This represents how they wrapped Jesus’ body.
Put the rolls in the oven (symbolizing the tomb) and bake for 12 minutes.
all white and pure because He was without sin.
While the rolls are baking, read John 20:1-18.
Open the tomb and remove the rolls. When they’re cool enough to handle, break one open and discover what happened to the marshmallow.
Open the tomb and remove the rolls. When they’re cool enough to handle, break one open and discover what happened to the marshmallow.

JESUS IS RISEN!

Homeschool Buyers Co-op

I recently was introduced to this Homeschool Buyers Co-op and it is free to join! It's just a way to buy curriculum and earn points to save money on future orders. I hope you will click on the link below and learn more about it. I just ordered Jacob's 6th grade Switched On Schoolhouse. We love this program and will most likely use this curriculum through high school.
This Co-op even offers free stuff and ways to earn points by giving reviews on other curriculums. You earn points for each dollar you spend and you can use those points to go towards your next purchase.

Strength in Submission

"Wives submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands love your wives even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself for it." Ephesians 5:22-25

It's not always easy to be submissive and there are times when I disagree with his decisions, but I have learned that if I follow my husband it makes our marriage work a lot easier. He has to answer to God for our family and the way he leads our home. My husband has to answer to God for the way he provides for us and keeps me happy. As long as I do my part in submitting to him and he does his part in submitting to God then everything will fall into place.

When those things get out of order and he does not want to follow God's will for our family or I don't want to agree with his decisions he makes, then there will be fighting and tension and turmoil in the marriage. No one will be happy and most marriages end in divorce because the home is out of order.

Sometimes being a submissive wife requires us to do things we might not be in the mood for or might not have time to do. But if that's what we need to do to keep our husbands happy then that is the right thing. I will say it again, it's NOT always easy and it took me 15 years to figure it out.

So many have asked how we made it this far in our marriage and how we are still in love after all these years....well it hasn't always been great and we've had some rough years, but God showed us how to love each other and put Him first in our lives.

Marriage takes a lot of work and its hard. Every day you have to wake up thinking "What can I do today to make him happy?" or "How can I make his day better?" Sweet little notes in his lunch or text messages during the day at work is nice and unexpected. We have to go out of our way to be nice to each other or we will get lazy and complacent. We just assume the other one is happy and then you grow apart.

You have to communicate every day how you feel or you will lose your connection. Our tone of voice makes a WORLD of difference.
Proverbs 15:1 " A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger."
Choose your words wisely and don't just say things without thinking first.

Learn to pray together at home. That can be the most precious thing and helps you grow together in the Lord and stronger as a couple learning to open up and tell each other your deepest feelings. Asking God to forgive us for our failures in front of our spouse is humbling and helps them to see us at our weakest. It's good for them to know we are aware of our faults and we need God's help to fix them.

So, just because I said all that, don't get this mental picture in your head that our marriage is perfect, because it's not. I still struggle every day trying to be submissive and bite my tongue and keep him happy. It's a DAILY job. Marriage is hard work but it's worth it. And I am so glad we made it this far. I hope God gives us 50 more years together.

Homeschool Field Trips

We met at a church for a fake Crime Scene Investigation. They gave the children clues to a death and they had to figure out who was guilty by using fingerprints, blood samples and more....
Another day we went to the Fire Station to learn all about their jobs and all the vehicles and equipment they use to keep us safe.

Then we went skating with all the other homeschool kids and they LOVED IT!!!
 Hokey Pokey
